Chihuahua - Small - Adult - Male - Dog - Chopper
Description
Chopper update: Chop is about to go in for his second dental. we feel that his health has improved greatly and he is ready to have those nasty teeth dealt with and then he will be ready to go. Chopper is very sweet and has not a bit of nasty in him. He ouwld do best in a home with dogs his size or larger as he can be a little bit of a boss with the smaller ones. He should also be fed in his crate f there are other dogs in the family. We feel he will always be thing bc of his Italian Greyhound mix, and may need the benefit of inexpensive enzymes, to help aid him in absorbing calories, but nothing more. He is really a very easy, good little guy.Chopper is being fostered outside of Syracuse NY. If you feel you have the right home for Chopper when he is ready, please read our policies and procedures at www.chihuahua-rescue.com There is also the application on that site. You can also contact me at lltlhd@hotmail.com This little project pooch is Chopper. He is a very, very underweight chihuahua mix with some major dental issues. Chopper came from a home where his owner was evicted. Probably the luckiest thing that could have happened to him. The previous owner has said that he has been in this sad state for about 3 years and felt that it was all becasue of his teeth, which she could not afford to fix. Believe it or not, Chopper has now had a dental, lost several teeth, all of the seriously infected ones and had growths on the roof of his mouth removed. They had to stop there becasue his body temp. was to low to continue. What remains is healthy for now but he will need a family who is able to continue his dental health for the remainder of his life. Chopper has been in foster care for about a month now with no obvious weight gain. We have him on a high calorie home cooked food, antibiotics (till this dental business is surely cleared up) probiotics, Cosequin, Omega 3's and other vitamins, and enzymes to assist his body in absorbing his nutrients. He is still extremely thin but we believe we are seeing the very beginning of weight gain. It is going to be a long process when an animal is so far down and has absolutely no muscle mass lest. Should he not begin to gain weight in the next few weeks, we will have to test further for other not so obvious health issues. Despite Choppers major weight and dental problems, he is a wonderfully sweet, loving, quiet little boy. He is in heaven when he is held and is happiest when all cuddled under the bed covers for the night. He gets along great with his foster brothers and sisters and ignores the cats. He is friendly to everyone he meets and his feelings are hurt when people have the look of shock or laugh when they initially meet him. We keep sweaters and t shirts on him almost all the time to help him stay warm. He is not ready to be adopted right now while we wait to see if this food and vitamin regimen will enable him to gain weight. He could use a best friend or two for sure. Thanks for reading about Chopper and his challenges. Check back in a few weeks to see how he is doing as we will continue to update his friends.
